When villagers in Baiyu County in southwest China's Sichuan Province saw a group of Thorold's deer visiting every afternoon for days, they were not surprised at all.
To begin with, Baiyu is a deer-watching area and has about 3,000 Thorold's deer. So it's not unusual to see the animals in the village.
The ultimate attraction for them is the salt pond.
The local forestry department said that the deer usually come down from high in the mountains for water and food in winter and head for the pond, perhaps for some replenishment after their downhill trek.
