Tsinghua University to publish AI textbook for high school students

China's prestigious Tsinghua University will publish a textbook on artificial intelligence (AI) for high school students in September, according to the university.

Compiled by AI experts from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences of the university, the textbook will be published by Tsinghua University Press.

It will feature eight core basic modules of AI including machine learning, linear regression, decision tree, neural networks, computer vision and natural language processing. The textbook will also be accompanied by exclusive website resources to facilitate hands-on practice.

China has set a goal of leading the world in the areas of AI theory, technology and applications and becoming a main AI innovation center in the world by 2030.

The Ministry of Education also included AI as a module in the high shcools' information technology curriculum in 2018. 

AI will have a profound impact on various disciplines and the textbook will help high school students acquire the correct concepts of AI, according to Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, dean of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences and chief editor of the textbook.
