Zhu Ting fires Tianjin to 12th Chinese Volleyball Super League title

Chinese volleyball superstar Zhu Ting has won her first domestic league title as Tianjin Bohai Bank swatted aside Shanghai Bright Ubest 3-0 to clinch their 12th Chinese Volleyball Super League (CVL) title in Shanghai on Tuesday night. 

Zhu guided VakıfBank Istanbul defend their league championship last summer and another fruitful years beckons as Tianjin made history by becoming the first team to win the CVL without conceding a single match during the whole season. 

Energy levels were high before the title decider and Shanghai were boosted by the return of Louisa Lippmann, who was called up by the German national team to play Olympic qualification tournament and missed their previous two games. 

The 25-year-old duly made her presence felt and led the way offensively with a game-high 22 kills. Yang Jie pitched in 8 and Qin Siyu collected 6. However, Tianjin's squad was way more balanced as Li Yingying handed out 18 kills, followed by Destinee Hooker with 18 and Zhu Ting added 15.

To Shanghai's credit, they showed their heart during this must-win encounter and the home fans got behind them. The hosts came out with plenty of fire in the opening stages and wrapped up the first set 25-22.  

But Tianjin displayed admirbale composure when falling behind, with Zhu Ting a reliable linchpin in both defense and attack. The match turned on its head and the visitors staged a comeback by winning their following three sets 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 and sealing the title.
