Taoism teaches people to balance yin and yang – the positive and negative, among other opposites, going with the flow and living in harmony with the Tao, the Path, or the Way. This philosophy has fascinated and inspired people not just in China, but around the world as well.

On Wednesday, the Taoist Association of China and the China Religious Culture Communication Association hosted a press conference in Beijing to introduce the highlights and themes of the 5th Taoism International Forum, scheduled for May.

The forum will focus on honoring the Way and being in harmony with the universe. Major topics will include exploring the relationship between Tao and physical health, social welfare, and overseas cultural exchanges.

"We hope to promote Taoism overseas to help people better understand this ancient philosophy," said Zhang Fenglin, the vice president of Taoist Association of China. "As you know, Taoism is an indigenous philosophical tradition from China. We also want to better promote Chinese culture through this forum."

Zhang noted that the biggest challenge for the development of Taoism in China is the lack of talent. He expressed hope that the upcoming forum would provide a platform for them to scout talents and also for those who have interest in Taoism to acquire a better understanding of the ancient philosophy.

The forum will be hosted in Maoshan this year, a sacred mountain in eastern China that has long held a place in Taoist tradition.

He Changlin, director of Jiangsu Province Committee on Ethnicities & Religions, said that there will be many exciting programs prepared for this year's forum. "There will be Taoist music and dances performed during the opening and closing ceremonies and there will also be exhibitions of Chinese calligraphy and art as well as traditional Jiangsu handicrafts. It will be a lot of fun."

The 5th International Taoist Forum will be held from May 5 to 7.
