The Tennessee Titans are challenging the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game at the Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. Having knocked out the Super Bowl defending champion New England Patriots and the league No. 1 Baltimore Ravens in their previous two rounds of the playoffs, the Titans are getting close finishing an epic Super Bowl journey.

The last time a team made Super Bowl with three road wins were the Patriots in the 1985-86 season. They first defeated the New York Jets 26-14 in the wild card game and then knocked out the Los Angeles Raiders, today's Oakland Raiders, 27-20. The Patriots then claimed a shocking win over the Miami Dolphins in the following AFC Championship Game.

In that season, only the Dolphins ever beat the league's No. 1 Chicago Bears once in the regular season. The Patriots ruined the hotly-anticipated "Dolphins vs. Bears" contest and earned the opportunity to be smashed by the bears 46-10 in Super Bowl.

If the Titans win on Sunday, their story will be more exciting than the Patriots' because the three opponents they defeated will be champions of their divisions.

The Patriots this season have the No. 1 quarterback/coach pair Tom Brady/Bill Belichick and the top defense of the league.

The Ravens led all the remaining teams with a 14-2 record, including a 12-win streak. Led by MVP candidate Lamar Jackson, they were the best offensive team of the league. Then the Titans eliminated the Ravens while limiting their score to 12 points.

Then what kind of team are the Chiefs they will meet on Sunday? They finished the regular season with a 12-4 record, ranking No. 2 in the AFC. Their QB Patrick Mahomes was the 2018 NFL MVP. In their previous two games, the Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings and the Houston Texans.

The Chiefs once trailed 24-0 to the Texans, but Mahomes then led them to launch a ridiculous 51-7 in the following game, claiming a 20-point win in the end.

Though defense has been the Titans' key to victory in the playoffs, the Chiefs are different from their other opponents.

First, let's look at the Patriots. One of the reasons that Tom Brady had to play his first wild card game in 10 years was the Patriots' weak offense. Julian Edelman and James White are their only two reliable receiving options. No wonder they scored nothing in the second half of the game against the Titans.

As for the Ravens, in spite of the team's league No. 1 offense, the Ravens relied a lot on rushing. With the longest rushing yards (3,296) this season, they were the only team that chose rushing in over half of the offensive opportunities in the first three quarters. Nonetheless, the Titans have the league's top 5 rushing defense. When Jackson was trapped in the mud, the Ravens' offense immediately fell apart.

By contrast, the Chiefs love passing and threw 70 percent of their offense. Mahomes threw 4,031 yards this season and led to 26 touchdowns. He could gain an average of 7.79 yards on every attempt. The team also has enough receiving options: Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins.

Simply speaking, the Chiefs' offense is exactly what the Titans' defense finds the thorniest.

The last two teams that defeated the league's No. 1 defensive and No. 2 offensive teams were the San Francisco 49ers in 1988 and the Patriots in 2004. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but both teams won the Super Bowl title in the end.

The NFC Championship Game will also happen on Sunday at Levi's Stadium between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers.
