Xi Jinping stresses need to build greater peace, rule of law in China

Chinese President Xi Jinping has demanded efforts to build China into a country with greater peace and heightened rule of law. 

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a recent instruction on the country's political and legal work. 

He called for deepening the overall reform of the work to elevate its level of modernization. 

Noting that 2020 is decisive for securing a victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and the fight against poverty, Xi stressed the need to give top priority to safeguarding national political security.

The president also called for efforts to build a reliable political and legal team.

The central conference on political and legal work was held in Beijing on Friday. The meeting stressed the CPC's absolute leadership over political and legal work.
