China and Myanmar signed an agreement to build the Kyaukpyu special economic zone's deep-sea port in December 2018... the first big joint project of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. The next big step came in July 2019, when the two sides launched an assessment of the port's environmental and social impact. While the port makes sense for China, it will also benefit Myanmar. With the help of the accompanying special economic zone, the project will drive the economy of areas along the corridor. A total of 100,000 jobs are expected to be created. And the special economic zone is forecast to generate 14 billion dollars of tax.
