With string lights lit and lanterns raised high, one more celebration to welcome the upcoming Spring Festival was held at Liulichang West Street in Beijing on Friday.

One of the most popular activities was guessing the answers to riddles on lanterns, with small prizes offered for correct guesses.

Paper and writing brushes were also provided for people to create their own posters of "Fu", a Chinese character meaning "fortune" or "good luck", which is a classic Spring Festival decoration.

Many visitors wrote down their wishes for the coming year, and put them up on a tree with red flowers.

Banners for the Changdian Temple Fair are already up along the streets. As one of the country's largest and oldest temple fairs, it will be held during the first five days of the Lunar New Year.
