Found in the middle section of the Wuyi Mountains, vast stretches of lotus fields make quite a view in summer.
Located in Jianning County, Sanming City of southeast China's Fujian Province, the Lianhai Terraces, meaning literally "the sea of lotus" terrace, is one of the best spots in the country to appreciate lotuses.
The hilly areas account for nearly 90 percent of the county.
The difference is more than 1,500 meters between Baishi Summit, the region's highest peak of 1,858 meters and the lowest point at 290 meters above sea level.
For thousands of years, the special terrain with unique microclimate is perfect for high-quality lotuses to grow.
In early summer, lotus leaves on the terraces emerge from the water and unfold their beauty.
Layers of lotus fields create an enchanted view in the mountains.
July and August are also the peak period for lotus seeds.
The temperature difference between day and night can reach 11 degrees Celsius, providing excellent conditions for the accumulation of nutrients in the lotus seeds.
There are over 3,300 hectares of lotus flowers in the county, which produces more than 4,000 tonnes of seeds on a yearly basis.
The lotus of Jianning is often referred to as the "best lotus in the country."
Other than the prominent beauty of lotuses, various flora and fauna grow in the area, among which are state protected species like China bretschneidera, China tuliptree, clouded leopard and Cabot's tragopan.
