Ten-man Arsenal held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw and Manchester City kept up their distant pursuit of Liverpool with their 1-0 victory at Sheffield United on a dramatic evening of Premier League football on Tuesday.

Fourth-placed Chelsea twice took the lead against Arsenal, who were reduced to 10 men after former Blues defender David Luiz took out Tammy Abraham when he was through on goal.

Brazilian-Italian midfielder Jorginho put Chelsea 1-0 ahead from the penalty spot in the 28th minute but Gabriel Martinelli, also from the South American country, equalized for Arsenal in the second half.

Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta put Chelsea 2-1 up with just six minutes remaining but Arsenal leveled only three minutes later through their Spanish wing-back Hector Bellerin who marked his return from injury.

"To do that against this kind of opponent in this stadium, I really value," Gunners' head coach Arteta of Spain said. "The way they have done it, with the spirit they have done it, that's great.

The 2-2 draw leaves Chelsea six points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United having played a game extra while Arsenal are in 10th spot, seemingly out of the running for a place in the top four.

Aguero strikes as Man City blunt Blades

Manchester City's Argentine striker Sergio Aguero sealed a 1-0 win against Sheffield United on Tuesday.

City's Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus had a penalty saved by Dean Henderson of England in the first half but with 17 minutes left Aguero bagged his seventh goal in four appearances in 2020.

His 21st goal of the season in all competitions moved second-placed City to within 13 points of runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand on the champions.

"Sergio is on fire right now. Strikers need momentum. It's good for us to have strikers in this form," the team's Spanish manager Guardiola said.

"I'm so happy with the team. I know what it's like to play here, it is a tough place. We controlled it well and in the end we created chances to win."

Manchester United charged by FA over players' misconduct

The English Football Association (FA) on Tuesday released a statement to charge the Manchester United over misconduct of their players in the 2-0 defeat by runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on January 19.

The FA statement read: "Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20(a). It is alleged that the club failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 26th minute of the Premier League fixture against Liverpool FC on Sunday (19/1/20)."

United's players surrounded referee Craig Pawson midway through the first-half on Sunday after Liverpool's Dutch center-back Virgil van Dijk challenged goalkeeper David de Gea of Spain.

Liverpoo's Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino subsequently scored, but his goal was ruled out following a VAR review of van Dijk's clash with the Spanish goalkeeper.

De Gea dropped the ball which the defense failed to clear allowing Firmino to take advantage and score.

A furious de Gea led United protests, rushing over to Pawson to vent his frustration. The Spaniard, who was booked for his actions, was joined by a number of his team-mates in surrounding Pawson.

United have until Thursday to respond to the charge.
