Around 2011, shared study lounges started appearing in Japan and South Korea, which just like China, culturally put a strong emphasis on higher education. And now the service has spread to Beijing and other Chinese cities. Charging up to 10 yuan, or just above one U.S. dollar per hour, the lounge is filled with people. Chen Jiahe, chief investment officer at Novem Arcae Technologies, explains the reasons why shared spaces are trending in China.
