After five rehearsals, the curtain has finally lifted on China Media Group's (CMG) much anticipated 2020 Spring Festival Gala.

 Belt and Road carnival

After the opening sequence, dancers from five countries along the Belt and Road showcased a grand carnival of dance.

The Moiseyev Dance Academy from Russia, the Abbe Dance Company from Cameroon, as well as dance groups from Azerbaijan, India and China's Jilin City all performed dances with their own national characteristics.

The lively dancing signified best wishes for the future and the Chinese New Year.

Spring Festival disco

The Spring Festival Disco performed by William Chan, Zhang Yixing and Dong Baoshi was a blast.

Adapted from a hit song on Tik Tok, the song from the tune to the dance has long been familiar to young people.

That this trending song can appear on as big a stage as the Spring Festival Gala is proof of short video popularity.

Go Wuhan! Go China!

CMG anchors Bai Yansong, Kang Hui, Shui Junyi, He Hongmei, Hai Xia and Ouyang Xiadan paid tribute to the medical professionals battling the coronavirus in a special new section called "The Bridge of Love."

They collectively shouted "Go China" as it is the aspiration of all Chinese people to join hands to defeat the virus.

Acrobatic show 'Blossom'

The acrobatic and magic shows always enjoy large viewership during the annual festival gala. This year, performers from Xi'an City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province and south China's Guangdong Province brought their acrobatic show "Blossom."

The strength of the performers and the visual effects of the stage amazed the audience. Dressed in colorful clothes, the performers matched the magnificent "tree" created by the 3D screens on stage, forming a beautiful image.

'Song of the Morning Light'

The dance performance of "Song of the Morning Light" by girls dressed in smoke-gray cheongsam wowed the audience with its traditional oriental flavor and use of props.

"Song of the Morning Light" originated from a dance segment of the original dance drama "The Eternal Wave." "Song of the Fishermen" shows the life of Shanghai women.

With its breathtaking stage design, the dance acts as a window into the beauty of Shanghai.

'Wandering Earth'

The theme song of last year's blockbuster "The Wandering Earth" was also brought to the stage of the 2020 Spring Festival Gala. Renowned Chinese singer Liu Huan, who is also the composer of the song, performed alongside child singer Zheng Chuxin.

To match the song, the stage was also changed into a "universe," thanks to technological creations. Featuring the new tech such as 5G and 8K resolution, the gala brought a new visual experience to the audience.

Segments from sub-venues in Zhengzhou and the Greater Bay Area were pre-recorded due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the main venue in Beijing remained jubilant.

The world's most-watched television show this year features eight segments which include short sketches and cross talk. Most of the programs are based on people's daily lives.
