As many across China reunite with their families for the Spring Festival, dozens of wild Asian elephants have been recently spotted having a get-together of their own in the Wild Elephant Valley, a nature reserve in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Wild Asian elephants are under first-class national protection in China, making their appearance in such large numbers all the more special.

According to conservation staff, the 62 elephants come from about six elephant families in the valley, accounting for about one-fifth of the country's existing wild Asian elephant population.

Local government authorities and personnel from relevant departments have also prepared emergency plans and have reminded tourists to avoid disturbing the elephant groups so as to prevent any unnecessary human-elephant conflict.
