The Taliban said it had shot down a U.S. military plane in the central Afghan province of Ghazni on Monday, killing all personnel on board, a spokesman for the Taliban Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement.

"The plane, which was on an intelligence mission, was brought down in Sado Khel area of Deh Yak district of Ghazni province," Mujahid added.

A plane crashed in Afghanistan's Ghazni province Monday, according to local media.

There were no immediate reports on casualties and the aircraft's owner is not yet known.

It was initially reported that the plane belonged to Ariana Airlines, but Ariana Afghan Airlines' acting CEO Mirwais Mirzakwal has denied the reports.

"There has been an airline crash, but it does not belong to Ariana because the two flights managed by Ariana today from Herat to Kabul and Herat to Delhi are safe," Reuters cited Mirzakwal as saying.
