The first official test event for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games has been canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, announced the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Winter Games on Wednesday.
According to the committee, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has been content with the preparations made so far and will reschedule the canceled races with further notice.
The 2019-2020 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Yanqing stop was originally scheduled for February 15 and 16. It includes men's downhill and super-G and is set to be the first official test event for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
According to the Yanqing Organizing Committee, the decision was jointly made by FIS, the Chinese Ski Association, and its Yanqing Local Organizing Committee out of consideration for the athletes and all participants' well-being.
"We will stay in close communications with FIS on organizing international alpine skiing competitions in Yanqing at an appropriate time, to further test the venue and make sure that it is fully prepared for Beijing 2022," said the Yanqing Organizing Committee.
