A 23-year-old man was the first patient in northern China's Shanxi Province to be diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. He has recovered and was discharged Wednesday from a local hospital in the provincial capital of Taiyuan. The man was in Wuhan from January 12 to January 15 and then returned home in Taiyuan. He was hospitalized on January 20 after he showed signs of fever.

He told the media, "It's the first time that this kind of thing has happened to me. I didn't know how it would develop later. But I have full confidence on our nation and its medical level. Now I feel very well physically and I also feel quite happy. I'm very thankful for the care and support I got from the hospital and the provincial government."
