Beijing airports have raised their prevention and control measures due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. As the extended national holiday will end on January 2, Beijing is expecting a travel rush with scores of people returning to Beijing. Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) estimates that the number of daily flights will peak on January 2, reaching over 1,700 flights a day.

In a coordinated effort to control the further spread of the novel coronavirus during the travel rush, both airports in Beijing, Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport, are tightening up prevention measures, which include taking temperatures of everyone entering the terminal and boarding on airplanes. Beijing Daxing International Airport has set up 23 body temperature-check channels and 13 stations, including a testing facility at Caoqiao metro station.

The CAAC is also asking airports to increase ventilation and disinfection in the terminals and on airplanes, and increase stocks of testing supplies, personal protective gears, hygiene emergency treatment equipment and medication.

In the meantime, both airports are cutting the number of daily flights by 10 percent daily. With multiple international airlines suspending flights to China, and most commercial flights to and from Wuhan and its surrounding cities being canceled indefinitely, overall air traffic is expected to drop compared with the same period last year.
