A new hospital that was built at breakneck speed to treat coronavirus patients has been finished on the outskirts of Wuhan and officially handed over to the military who will operate it in the following days to fight against the novel coronacirus.
One day before its completion, CGTN's Xu Zhaoqun went to the construction site.
About 30 kilometers from the city center, more than 4,000 people are working in day and night shifts at one of the busiest places in Wuhan. Hospital wards are nearly complete but indoor equipment has yet to be installed.
"The project started eight days ago. We've now finished most of it. The rest is plumbing," said Lyu Li, communications head of the construction site.
Beijing built a makeshift hospital in six days for SARS patients 17 years ago and the hospital in Wuhan is being completed almost as quickly, but with much more modern technology.
"We've laid a special membrane underground to prevent contamination because of the specific use of this hospital," Lyu said.
It's hard to imagine how much work they've done before the handover within a few hours, but one thing is sure: they are making all-out efforts to guarantee that the hospital is ready for patients.
