Held every five years, the carnival parade is part of festivities marking Fasnacht, i.e. the Shrovetide carnival, which features some of the most important folk events. /VCG Photo

Participants were dressed as Shrovetide characters Schleicher or Wilde. Schleicher wear specially designed hats that weigh up to eight kilograms and masks made of fine wire netting, while Wilde wear wooden masks and gowns made from tree lichen. /VCG Photo
