Found in Duotian Town, Xinghua City of east China's Jiangsu Province, is a sea of flowers blooming in the water.

Xinghua stack fields exhibit the great intelligence of ancient Chinese people.

5,000 years ago, this was a coastal area to the East China Sea.

3,000 years ago, the coastline moved eastward, and land appeared in the area.

1,000 years ago, local people built a series of dams and excavated a network of ditches to prevent floods.

The soil was piled up, forming fields in all shapes and sizes.

Hundreds of years later, the low-lying wetlands unsuitable for agriculture were gradually transformed into stack fields.

Surrounded by water, the fields look like numerous islets on the sea, bestowing the town with the name "Home of a thousand islets."

While maintaining the original irrigation system, these fields conserve water and soil for the surrounding ecological environment.

Nearly 100 kinds of vegetables are grown in the 20-square kilometer-fields, with an annual output of 300,000 tonnes.

The unique landform represents the unity of man and nature.

In 2014, the Xinghua stack fields was included in the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Every spring, when the rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, people enjoy the boat ride in the vast sea of golden flowers.
