Iranians have been voting in parliamentary elections on Friday, at a time when U.S. sanctions are taking a severe toll on the economy. Around 7,000 candidates are running for the 290-seat chamber. Thousands of other potential candidates were disqualified from standing. Iran's parliament does not have power to dictate major policies, but it does debate the annual budget and the possible impeachment of ministers. Initial results are expected to be announced on Saturday.
