A coronavirus vaccine is being tested on animals in east China's Zhejiang Province, Song Zhiheng, deputy secretary of Science and Technology Department of Zhejiang Province, said in a press conference on Saturday.

Medical institutes in Zhejiang have been working with enterprises on researching and developing coronavirus vaccines and good progress has been achieved.

Another type of vaccine is also under development. "The culture of recombinant virus for the development of recombinant adenovirus vector vaccine has started, and will enter animal trial soon," Song noted.

Despite the headway made so far, the official recognized that there is a long development cycle for vaccines and stressed the importance of preciseness and safety during the research and development process.
