The auto industry has suffered due to the coronavirus outbreak. Herbert Diess, the CEO of Volkswagen Group -- one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers -- is deeply convinced that China will be able to overcome and win the battle against the outbreak.

"I see millions of people joining forces to win the battle against the coronavirus. Though the situation is very serious, I'm deeply convinced that China will overcome it with solidarity and dignity," Diess said.

China is of outstanding importance for the auto giant. In 2019, the group, with its joint ventures and brands, achieved total cumulative sales of over 42 million vehicles in the China market, despite the headwinds in the market.

And with more than 100,000 staff working in the country, the CEO promises that they will "strive to ensure a safe and healthy working environment" for staff here. And the CEO reveals that Volkswagen Group has donated 120 million yuan (17 million U.S. dollars), which will directly go to regions most in need of aid.

Diess also hopes that China's social life and business activities will return to normal soon, and promises as much assistance as the group is able to give.

Meanwhile, Diess calls for cooperation to fight the battle by saying "we live in one world, and we share all of the challenges of humanity. Only together we truly solve them."

The CEO also shares his best wish for "everyone who has to fight his or her own infection. And our gratitude goes to the thousands of hardworking professionals and volunteers on the front line who are fighting the virus in every possible way."
