On Sunday, police in Nanjing, China's eastern Jiangsu Province, announced the arrest of a murder suspect in a 1992 case involving the death of a female college student at Nanjing Medical University.

According to an announcement posted by Nanjing police on China's social media site Weibo, a female college student from Nanjing Medical University was murdered in Gulou District in Nanjing on March 24, 1992. Police were unable to identify the suspect back then due to a lack of evidence. 

Since then, Nanjing police have been investigating the case and on February 23, 2020, after obtaining crucial evidence, the police arrested a suspect in the early morning, bringing the case to a conclusion after more than two decades, the announcement read.

According to local media report, police closed in on the murder suspect with the aid of a DNA test result. Details of the case and investigation were not revealed to the public. The Nanjing police said that investigation is ongoing.
