Beijing, China's capital, is an important stopover on the super-highway of migrating birds. Despite having a population of over 21 million, the metropolis is an intermediary point for birds every winter and summer.

In the early spring, some "leading troops" of migrating birds arrived. Transient visitants such as gulls and swans were seen in Shahe Reservoir, a wetland in the metropolis. After replenishing, these birds will head north to northeastern China, Mongolia and Siberia.
