Patrick Reed overcame some mid-day jitters and fired three late birdies to clinch the coveted winner's trophy at the WGC Mexico Championship on Sunday.
Former Masters champion Reed registered a four-under par 67 for a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau after staying patient through a frustrating front nine at Chapultepec Golf Club near Mexico City and cruising to the victory with an 18-under par total of 266. Earlier, The American golfer birdied at the 15th, 16th and 17th which pushed him to 19-under for the tournament, giving him a two-stroke lead. That was more than enough for Reed as he pushed his tee shot at 18 well right and limited the damage to a bogey for the narrow win.
After his emphatic yet nail-biting triumph, Reed remarked, "It's very rewarding. To come back and win my second World Golf Championship — especially with how I had to finish on basically 15 onwards. The last hole was ugly, but it was what I needed to get the job done."

Incidentally, his only other WGC title came in the same event in 2014, when it was played at Doral in Florida.
Earlier, DeChambeau was well poised to take control with four birdies in a five-hole stretch as his 14-footer at 14 catapulted him to the top of the leader-board at 18-under. But a three-putt bogey at the par-three 17th cost him dearly and he had to settle for a six-under par 65 and a 17-under total of 267.
Justin Thomas, despite taking a one-shot lead into the final round, fizzled out fast on the final day as he carded a two-over par 73 to finish joint sixth. Spain's Jon Rahm, who had the chance to become world number one with a victory, briefly seized a share of the lead with birdies at four of his first five holes. But he failed to carry the momentum during the decisive holes finished third on 269 along with South Africa's Erik van Rooyen, who carded a one-under 70.
