Monday marks the Tibetan New Year, a traditional festival celebrating the ethnic minority group. But many local residents have celebrated quietly this year, as local authorities urge citizens to avoid group activities due to the coronavirus outbreak. More than 230 stores and vehicles selling daily necessities over the festival period have been set up in Lhasa and nearby areas. Some local residents amused themselves by making zanba, a traditional Tibetan staple food made from roasted barley flour as part of the celebration. And earlier, the 11th Panchen Lama sent his New Year greetings to all Tibetan people across the world through China Media Group. He said he is confident China will win the fight against COVID-19.
