Memetjan Metqasim, who goes by "Xiaomai" nowadays, is a Uygur musician from Yutian, an outpost in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. For several years, he has experimented with blending different styles of traditional Chinese folk music, often taking inspiration from different cultures. Recently, he has taken his music to some of China's biggest stages and won the recognition of established musicians.
