China's Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council holds a press conference on the latest efforts to suspend trade and consumption of wildlife while containing the COVID-19. China's top legislature, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, adopted a decision on Monday to thoroughly ban and punish the illegal trade of wildlife, eliminate consumption of wild animals, and safeguard people's lives and health. The decision went into effect on the same day and aims to prevent major public health risks.
