Expressing optimism over the decline in new coronavirus cases in the country, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for unremitting efforts to prevent and control the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and accelerate all aspects of work in economic and social development.
"The downward trend is a positive sign, while the risk of the resurgence of the outbreak should not be overlooked," President Xi made the remarks while chairing a meeting on the prevention and control of the epidemic on Wednesday.
He also asked Party committees and governments at all levels to enhance the prevention and control of the virus and promote socio-economic development so as to secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and win the battle against poverty.
Addressing the meeting, Xi urged all parties to dedicate resources to help contain the epidemic in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak.
Meanwhile, Xi underscored the importance of protection at special places and focus groups, such as nursing institutions for the elderly, welfare center for children, and medical and health services.
Noting the health and safety of workers are a top priority, Xi said companies and businesses should cut back on their workload to reduce pressure on their employees, adding that necessary measures should be in place to prevent the virus from spreading in communities.
On enhancing international cooperation, Xi expressed China's commitment to working continuously with other countries and international organizations in dealing with the outbreak.
