A century-old global food manufacturer aims to ensure needed supplies of pet food and access to veterinary services for the millions of pets affected by the coronavirus outbreak in China.
Mars has been in China for three decades and has become one of the largest pet-care providers in the country.
"We feel a particular responsibility to these companion animals. We aim to ensure needed supplies of pet food and access to veterinary services are available even in the most hard-hit regions," said Frank Mars, the incoming chairman of the board of Mars.
"China is special to Mars because of the strong bond and trust we have developed with the Chinese people over the last three decades," he stressed, adding that the company has contributed with several million yuan to fight the epidemic and has donated Mars' goods to the affected regions and people.
"We stand in support of China. We are not alone. It is heartening to see governments, NGOs, the World Health Organization, and other multinational businesses and individuals around the world reaching out to offer help," he shared with CGTN.
He is confident in the resilience of the Chinese economy and trusts China will recover soon after the epidemic.
"The hard work and dedication being exhibited today during this challenging time will usher in a better tomorrow. I trust the difficult times will be over, and we will once again turn our attention to growth and prosperity for China, its people and businesses like Mars that consider China home," he said.
