A 400-year old saucer magnolia tree, which is believed to be the oldest of its kind in the world, is in full bloom.
According to experts, it was planted during the Wanli period (1573–1620) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The tree is inside the Marquis Wu, a site that is dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of the Kingdom of Shu in the Three Kingdoms Period (220 - 280). The white and pink flowers usually bloom every March, and they are known for resembling elegant lotuses, thus gaining the reputation of being "the lotus on land."
