Rangers with a wetland park in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region have stepped up protective measures to ensure that the swans can migrate to the far north safely, after they spent the winter at the park.

As temperatures increase, the ice has started to melt at the Manas National Wetland Park and hundreds of swans are seen swimming and flying as they prepare for their long-distance migration.

A record high of more than 800 swans were monitored wintering at the park this year. The number is dropping as some birds began the migration to the far north about a week ago.
