A mechanism of sharing knowledge and experience is very helpful for understanding the COVID-19, said a Chinese expert on Wednesday.

Li Haichao, vice president and director of Department of Internal Medicine of Peking University First Hospital, made the remarks in response to CGTN's question about the experiences in the past two months.

"It's a new disease. So, in this area, we set up a mechanism for sharing knowledge and experience between colleges from different areas. So, it is very helpful for us to know about this disease," said Li.

He also said that the setting up of multi-discipline teams is very helpful, as the epidemic needs doctors from different disciplines to treat different situations.

Scientific research crucial to win the battle

Cao Bin, deputy dean of the Respiratory Research Institute at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, highlighted the scientific progress Chinese doctors and researchers have made during the past two months' fight against the virus.

"If we want to control the disease, we have to base on science," he said, adding that Chinese researchers had gone through three steps, including collecting clinical data, grasping pathology and conducting basic scientific researches to know the disease from zero in only two months' time.

"Everyone has to remember that it's a new disease, it takes time for us to get to know it," he noted. "That's the first achievement made by China during last two months."

He also said that China has been open in sharing the latest knowledge of new diseases, which has contributed to other countries' understanding of it.

He said that he got e-mails from foreign physicians saying that they got to know the disease through China's publications and introduced what the disease is like to American citizens.
