Chinese Super League (CSL) club Jiangsu Suning's midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has been called-up to the Ghanaian national team for their upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The China-based combative midfielder earned the call-up for this month's doubleheader. Popularly known as the Black Stars, the Ghana side will face the Sudanese side, known as the Falcons of Jediane, first at home on March 27 before flying to Omdurman three days later for the return match.

Wakaso signed for the CSL side recently and has been one of the midfield mainstays of both his club and national sides.

He is expected to play a pivotal role as the Black Stars are looking to build on their unblemished record in Group C of the AFCON qualifiers.

Ghana's head coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor also gave first-time call-ups to winger Tariq Fosu from Brentford FC and Eugene Ansah from Hapoel Ra'anana in Israel in his provisional 23-man squad.

16 other players, including Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew, kept their respective spots from Ghana's opening qualifying wins over South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe. The Black Stars now sit on top of Group C with six points and are well on course to board the bus to Cameroon for the 2021 AFCON tournament.
