Marking China Youth Volunteer Service Day in style, veterans in Dalian in northeastern China's Liaoning Province are playing their part in coronavirus prevention and control efforts at the grassroots. 

Since the outbreak, these veterans have been undertaking various activities, such as carrying out disinfection, checking body temperature, residents registration, and delivery of daily necessities to residents. 

Some of them in their 60s and 70s joined the volunteer group during the Chinese New Year. 

The Chinese government has recently released a circular asking local authorities to give special grants to community workers and volunteers, who are helping fight the novel coronavirus at the primary level in urban and rural areas.
