35-year-old guard of the Baltimore Ravens has decided to announce his retirement this week, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

The Ravens selected Yanda from the University of Iowa in the third round in the 2007 NFL Draft and he went on to contribute his whole career to the team.

In the past 13 years, Yanda was selected for the Pro Bowl eight times, First-Team All pro twice and Second-Team All Pro five times. On February 3, 2013, he helped the Ravens defeat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to win Super Bowl XLVII.

Only three guards in NFL history have been named at least eight-time Pro Bowl and won at least one Super Bowl: Yanda, Larry Allen and Alan Faneca.

In fact, Yanda considered retiring in the 2019 offseason but finally he decided to return to M&T Bank Stadium for one last season. He made good contributions to the Ravens' record 3,296 rushing yards and 531 points in the 2019 season.

Yanda has never been known for outstanding athleticism or great physical conditions. Bravery, firmness and playing with his head are his secret weapons. It isn't a rare scene to see him take three defenders by himself just to clear the ground for his teammate.

"He's just a special human being and a special player, and he's a Hall of Famer someday," said Ravens head coach John Harbaugh about Yanda.

"Yanda has been one of the best guards that I've seen in my career over these last 10 years," said Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the 49ers.

"I just have a lot of respect for him and his body of work and how he plays. I always have. It's obvious that he's the heartbeat of that unit and has been for a long time," said Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
