With the number of COVID-19 recoveries increasing in China, the country's National Health Commission (NHC) has outlined a trial health management scheme to manage patients discharged from hospital.

The plan issued on Friday comprises seven points covering quarantine management, follow-up checks, health monitoring, and rehabilitation.

After being discharged from hospital, patients should observe a 14-day self-isolation at home for medical observation, according to the plan. Designated hospitals should arrange follow-up checks spanning two to four weeks, and primary medical institutions should guide both the patients and their families through quarantine management and self monitoring.

Recovered patients are recommended to stay by themselves in rooms with good ventilation. They should eat separately, pay attention to hand and daily hygiene, and avoid going out.

Health monitoring is especially essential for the elderly and patients with underlying diseases. Once clinical manifestations like fever and coughing occur, patients should be transferred to designated hospitals for further treatment as soon as possible.

The plan also highlights the role that information technology and platform can play in the management of recovered cases.

It said local authorities should try to share and coordinate residents' health records, electronic medical records and health monitoring after they leave hospital relying on the local health information platforms.

General practitioners and rural physicians are encouraged to provide health management services for recovered patients through various means such as apps.
