China announced countermeasures against U.S. suppression of Chinese media on March 19. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said that in response to the discriminatory restrictions the U.S. has imposed on Chinese journalists with regard to visa, administrative review and reporting, China will take reciprocal measures against American journalists.

Geng announced the expulsion of more than a dozen American journalists on March 18.
