U.S. records more than 35,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases

The White House said 254,000 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the United States. A total of 35,224 cases and 471 deaths have been confirmed in the U.S. as of Monday, according to Johns Hopkins University, which added that more than 35,000 people have been diagnosed worldwide.

New York, Washington and California have all been declared "major disaster areas." The governor of New York, which accounts for about a third of the country's total confirmed cases, said it has yet to get any funding from the first COVID-19 bill passed by congress.

New York City's mayor warned on Sunday that the epidemic in the city will continue to worsen, requiring the federal government to do something.
