James Dolan, owner of the NBA's New York Knicks, tested positive for the new coronavirus, announced the team in an official statement on Saturday.

The Madison Square Garden Company Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer became the first NBA team owner to be infected with the virus.

"Dolan has been in self-isolation and is experiencing little to no symptoms. He continues to oversee business operations," said the Knicks in the statement.

It remains unknown when, where or how Dolan was infected. The Knicks played against the Utah Jazz and the Detroit Pistons at home on March 4 and 8 respectively. Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell of the Jazz and Christian Wood of the Pistons were the first group of NBA players testing positive for the virus. The three have already recovered.

New York State is one of the hardest-hit places by COVID-19 in the U.S. with over 30,000 confirmed cases and at least 672 deaths. So far there are no reports about whether the Knicks have been tested or not. The other local team, the Brooklyn Nets, have four players testing positive for the virus, including Kevin Durant.

SNY reporter Ian Begley posted on Twitter that that the MSG promised to pay employees at minimum salary until May 3. Meanwhile, a relief fund has also been established to help employees in need thanks to one million U.S. dollars from the MSG, one million donated by Dolan Family Foundation and 300,000 from the MSG management.

Though the MSG is the basketball Mega in the NBA and the Knicks are the most valuable team in the league (about 4.6 billion U.S. dollars), their owner Dolan have been seen by many as the worst team owner of the league for a long time. He has made simply too many unwise decisions operating the team and one of the consequences is that the team only made the playoffs three times since 2004.
