The accident happened at 11:40 a.m. when the train was running from the city of Jinan, east China's Shandong Province, to Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong Province, said China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd.

There were 654 passengers and 37 staff on board when the accident happened. The interruption has delayed 31 trains as of 1:30 p.m. Railway authorities have been adjusting routes to mitigate the impact.
