A series of explosions were conducted to break up frozen Heilongjiang River in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Wednesday and Thursday.
The operation was aimed at preventing spring flooding. With rising temperatures, the frozen Tahe section on Tahe River is all set to enter the annual thawing season in April. Local authorities organized professional demolition squads to carry out the operation. The blasted section covered 3.6 kilometers of the river.
