The cute little green birds in the pictures are rose-ringed parakeets, originally native to Africa and South Asia. They are "foreigners" in Paris, but have already settled down in large groups in many urban areas. Since introduced in Europe in 19th century, they have established themselves and are bred for the exotic pet trade. Some pet birds made it to escape and live in the wild; and have colonized a number of cities around the world. IUCN red list classifies it as "least concern" as its population has been increasing.

Despite the name "rose-ringed,"only the male ones have the red-black necklace; females and juveniles are pure green. /VCG

The rose-ringed parakeets are popular pets, because they are friendly and can speak. However, like all other parrots, rose-ringed parakeets are quite noisy. Also, they live for decades, so you must commit to this animal-human relationship like any other relationship.
