Exactly one year ago, on April 3, 2019, the Legislative Council (LegCo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) started discussing a draft bill on amendments to HKSAR's Fugitive Offenders Ordinance and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Ordinance. The bill, which proposed to establish a mechanism to extradite fugitives to the Chinese mainland, the Macao SAR and Taiwan region, sparked protests in Hong Kong. Since January 2020, street protests have been almost completely halted to avoid the concentration of large crowds amid the coronavirus outbreak. However, the coronavirus crisis and protests have taken a heavy toll on Hong Kong's economy. When will Hong Kong recover from its turmoil? Hong Kong must bring violence and chaos to an end and restore order, and fight the epidemic and awaken the Lion Rock spirit.
