At the end of March, New Yorkers launched the #ClapBecauseWeCare event. Every day at 7 p.m., they applauded and cheered for essential workers from their balconies and out on the street. Residents have been requested to stay home while police and medical staff continue their normal work. Each applause lasts for two minutes, and is audible throughout the Manhattan area.
