Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan said on Monday that discrimination against Hubei workers needs to be stopped immediately, while urging "all possible measures" to lower potential effect on Hubei college graduates' employment.
Sun, who leads a central government group to guide the epidemic control work in epicenter Hubei Province, made the remarks during a meeting held in Wuhan University.
"The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council are paying extra attention on college graduates from the Hubei area, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic," Sun said in the meeting.
According to the official, more quotas will be given to those who wish to pursue higher education in Hubei.
In addition, she called for more support for entrepreneurship of college graduates in the area and, moreover, policies that can widen the career paths of these college graduates.
The process of online job recruitment should also be improved, she stressed.
Later, Sun also paid a visit to the student dorms in the university. She urged a thorough disinfection before students and faculties return to the campus.
Most of China's universities and lower-level schools have remained closed since the start of the outbreak. Students would have to take classes online.
