Tourists stuck in COVID-19 infected cruise leave Uruguay, return home

More than 100 Australians and New Zealanders left Uruguay on a chartered flight after two weeks stranded in a virus-infected cruise ship. From the 217 people aboard the Greg Mortimer Liner, 128 tested positive for COVID-19.

The ship was not being allowed to dock, but the Uruguayan and Australian governments agreed to a "sanitary corridor" to evacuate elderly tourists. The corridor was set up between Montevideo's port and its international airport, where tourists boarded a flight to Melbourne.

On the airplane, passengers were seated by test results and the level of care required. This means people who tested negative and others infected flew together.
