A sudden spell of cold air in northern China has surprised many since Friday as places across the country have been embracing spring.

In Shanxi Province, blooming flowers were seen coated with snow and ice on Saturday.

Every spring, as a result of cold air, a common climatic phenomenon in China, the weather becomes less predictable.
