At least nine people were killed, and eight others injured, when a heavy truck ran off a main road and plowed into roadside homes in Luoyuan County, Fuzhou City, east China's Fujian Province, local authorities said on Monday.

All the injured have been taken to the hospital and rescue work is underway.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
